Here are five items to try at Liberty Public Market, the popular food hall that opened in March in San Diego’s Point Loma neighborhood.
Liberty Public Market covers 25,000 square feet in a former Navy commissary in Liberty Station. Eat in the Mess Hall or take your purchases to one of the many outside areas. 1. Pig fries at Mastiff Sausage Company
The challenge with Mastiff’s pig fries is to limit yourself to one order. The toppings are drool-worthy (unless you’re vegetarian, in which case you can order fries with everything but meat): confit ham hock, bacon crumble, house sausage, cotija cheese, cilantro and harissa aioli.
2. Boom burger and tater tots at Stuffed!
Try not to salivate when reading the ingredients in the $12 Boom burger: American cheese-stuffed patty topped with spicy mac ‘n’ cheese, peppered smoked bacon, pickled jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, pickles and Stuffed! sauce. Pair it with tater tots that strike the right balance between crunch and mushy. Another dish that gets raves: mac ‘n’ cheese with braised short rib.
